Glossary
The terms used on this site, explained briefly.
- Amendment · averbamento
- A change SRIJ records on a licence already issued, such as an extension of its term or a new game type.
- Cash out
- Closing a bet before the event ends, for the amount the bookmaker offers at that moment. That amount also includes a margin.
- Decimal odds · odd decimal
- The number you multiply your stake by to get the return, stake included. Odds of 2.00 return €20 for a €10 stake if the bet wins.
- Fixed-odds sports betting · apostas desportivas à cota
- Bets placed against the licensed operator at odds fixed when the bet is made. It is the only licence type this site follows.
- Games of chance · jogos de fortuna ou azar
- The SRIJ licence type for online casino games. A licence of this type does not allow sports betting.
- Gross gaming revenue · receita bruta
- Amounts staked minus prizes paid, as SRIJ reports it in its quarterly reports.
- Illegal gambling · jogo ilegal
- Running or promoting online gambling without an SRIJ licence. It is a crime, punishable by up to 5 years in prison or a fine of up to 500 days.Source: RJO, Art. 49(1) (authorised by Law 73/2014, Art. 3(a)(i)), 13/10/2026
- Implied probability · probabilidade implícita
- The probability that matches a price: 1 ÷ odds. Odds of 2.00 mean 50%. It is the bookmaker's price, not the real probability.
- Licensed operator · entidade exploradora
- The company that holds the SRIJ licence and runs the licensed site.

- Margin · overround, margem
- The share of each stake the bookmaker keeps over time. It shows when a market's implied probabilities add up to more than 100%.
- Self-exclusion · autoexclusão

- SRIJ · Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos
- Portugal's online gambling regulator, part of Turismo de Portugal. It issues licences and publishes the list of licensed operators.
- SRIJ licence · licença
- Authorisation to run one type of online game on a given site. Each licence has a number (for example, no. 001) and a term, which an amendment can extend.
- Suspension at the operator's request · suspensão
- The operator keeps its licence but has asked SRIJ to suspend the activity for a time. The site cannot take bets while the suspension lasts.
